Devlog 1 - Concept
How would you describe your game?
The game is about self development in life and equal rights or better said inequality. It’s a fun game that you need to play with four players. Each player chooses one character. There are four different characters. You can choose to play with Thomas, Eva, Sandra and Jasper. They each have their own personality, study to get their PhD, and each character starts the game with another amount of ZOP (stands for Zelf Ontwikkelings Punten, which means Self Development Points). The ZOP are like points in the game that you can earn by stepping on a crossing and picking a ZOK (which stands for Zelf Ontwikkelings Kaarten, which means Self Development Cards).
The goal is to develop yourself in life and earn ZOP. The player who first earns 800 ZOP and ends in the middle, wins the game. After the first player is finished, the game stops and then the player with the second most ZOP will become second and so on.
What decisions have been made so far in regards to:
- Engagement of the game with the selected theme
The subjects that we chose to use out of the brainstorm session are technological development in society, inequality and self development.
- Engagement of the game with EU values
Our main subject is technological development in society. Which is linking to the EU value of promoting scientific and technological progress.
We also chose to implement the subjects inequality and self development in relation to the EU value: equal rights for men and women.
- Inspiration from the museum and kick-off
The inspiration that we took from the museum Beeld en Geluid is that in the museum you are free to explore the exhibition in a way you like. You can choose to first go to sell and then inform there is not an specific order in which you have to go. We also saw sort of light beams floating through the museum connecting each part with each other. We took these two things as inspiration and implemented it in our game. Because in the game there are many paths you can choose to follow. There is not an specific order just the same as in the museum. Each path leading to a crossing connecting everything together.
We also saw that in the sell corner there was a game about propaganda with physical buttons. And we liked the feeling of having texture and real buttons. So in our game we used materials that have texture and that made that our board has an 3D element.
How did you come to these decisions?

What are your action points for the upcoming day?
Generate card ideas for the ZOK and make a design in Illustrator for the ZOK. Also make a playing guide. And develop ZOP sliders to keep track of your score during the game.
