Devlog 3 - Expert feedback

From the expert council:

  • How was the engagement with the EU values perceived by the expert council?

Yeah, it was clear to them that it was about inequality, first thing what they said when we received the feedback. They also said that to do maybe more with the inequality, for example give the character more difference than only at the start or make dedicated cards for each player.

 - What can be improved?

More deep diving with the character that each player plays. To give them more personality and so that each player can really dive in their own character.

  • How playable was the prototype according to the experts? What was their feedback regarding the mechanics? What could be changed to improve it?

Quite good actually. We made a clear and easy to understand playing guide with photos and an legenda. So that the players could easily start playing without reading too much. They were very pleased with the guide and after reading for max. 2 minutes they started playing. There were just some small questions. For instance if you could jump from one path to the other and if you had to end at a crossing to take an ZOK. For these small questions we can easily adapt the playing guide. We received a lot  of positive feedback about the mechanics. They really liked the persona artworks, the ZOK and the ZOP slider. We were very pleased to hear that, because we have put a lot of effort into making them as they are.

Afterwards we received that the game was fun to play, but that we could add more deepdive in the characters and do more with the special places on the board. For example when you land on the hospital: you go on sick visit and have to skip your turn for one round. For the characters it could mean that when a character receives a certain amount of ZOP that they have to do a task or they receive something, or work together to finish a task and receive ZOP. And that some players have more benefits according to their backgrounds or gender.

From your own observations and the feedback from the experts, what are the most significant takeaways from today and why?

It was so much fun to see players play our game. Laura, Tim and I really enjoyed that. What we wrote down during the game was that it was not very clear how to land on the goal/finish.

That the legenda is quite busy and chaotic.

That they will only do something when there is a hurry.

Add a task when someone has 500ZOP.

The questions that the players had during the gameplay: Who is allowed to start first? When do you take a ZOK?

What are your action points for the upcoming day?

Work on deep diving the characters to give them more personality to add a layer in the gameplay. We will do this by adding personalised tasks and benefits for some players. Processing the feedback that we received today and uploading the documents to Itch. For friday we will make an pitch/presentation of our game to show to the experts and the other people that will come to examine our project/game.
